From my sister...:))

So this is the reason why my dear sister has been holed up in the little room with our desktop. No she's not up to some nefarious activity, in fact, she's been blogging.
Allow me to introduce myself: i'm her elder sister (we have an eldest sister).
We share a lovely semi-girly room.
When we are both awake* at the same time, we usually talk. About our lives. (Sorry this is as far as I can go in terms of elaboration since she just reminded me that I am not to dafame her on her blog, so..yup.)
*this is precious time mind you, since i have been sleeping everyday from 7pm to 7am due to jetlag-my fave companion of late is none other than dunlopillo and my very busy sister has a very vibrant social life compared to mine.
When we are both seated at the desk that we share, which is very seldom since the only thing we do at the desk is erm, study, we ALWAYS fight for a treasure: the silly gym ball under the table. This very sought-after gym ball is this bouncy thing on which we rest our tired(or not) legs everyday. Our legs get restless and itchy when they are on the floor. Due to the fact that I always lose to her, I always retreat to the bed behind, but thats only because my legs are itchy. Meiyi will be in full agreement of this sentence, since she always screams at me to return to the desk and resume studying. I mean, she is called The slavedriver for a reason right? Sometimes when theres a heap of MY clean clothes on MY bed (not hers) she will scream at me to keep them in my cupboard before I nap. why oh why.
Anyway I'm going to end soon. Sorry for those who found this an absolutely boring post.
Happy New Year everyone and remember to cherish your loved ones, for example your SISTERS and brothers, parents, and domestic helpers. They keep you sane, so please don't make them insane ok.
Love,
Luyi

Farewell...

This post comes after a meaningful farewell not only for Mr. Jeow (SCGS Band Teacher-In-Charge) but also us, yes the batch of sec 4s 2006. Oh yes, not forgetting, Miss Rosalind Heng who is retiring from her post as principal of SCGS. Ok, maybe its just me, but I really feel sentimental over the affairs of SC.

***
I remember the first day I stepped foot into SC. There I was, still clad in my polka-dotted St. Margaret's uniform. Standing at a mere 1.3m (the most), I was overwhelmed by the surrounding. Yes, I admit it, I hated it. I was never going to let this school take the place of my wonderful primary school. I really loved SMPS by the way. With zilch good friends to take this step with me, (as most had decided to either go back to St. Margaret's or other schools), I was thrown to this foreign place, left to fend for myself, and perhaps to do my best to make a new friend or two?

Slowly...this girl grew...through the tests of time, happy or sad, through the screw ups of any normal life. And guess where she learnt most of her lessons from?... It had gotta be when she was in SCGS Band...of course im not abandoning my classes and Pb.. haha

Clarinetist's greetings:)

ahha, yea this was the "information" provided to all sec ones this year during orientation...

I remember making this choice 4 years back... and its one that I would never ever regret. In band was where I learnt from my gravest mistake, where I've dealt (and I'm not sure if i've handled it) with the most difficult relationship, earned the truest of friends, earned the greatest scolding ever, given the most prayers for and will remember it most dearly forever. I've done the craziest of things inside this room, yet learnt the most in here. From coming in at 5 plus or staying till 8 plus (or maybe till midnight?:)) to finish work like bookmarks and keychains for newcomers or slogging to put up decorations or simply having exco meetings when we were dead after school, this place meant so much not only to me, but to all members in our Band.

Thank God for all you wonderful people, Mr Yap: for your amazing talent for conducting music under your baton, Mr Jeow and Ms Soh: for grilling us especially Michelle, Chara, Eunice and I till the last hours of the day especially during camps and our trip to Kedah, for exposing our weaknesses and forcing us to reflect and improve, Ms Ng and Ms Leong: for having so much patience to deal with us section by section, and for getting my priorities right (music, in this aspect). Thank you security guards for chasing us home and even singing us songs while waiting for us to pack up, and always having patience even though that "5 minutes more, uncle!" seemed all too familiar. :) Thank God for my wonderful seniors, who have exemplified the example from which Im learning everyday, thank you juniors, who always give me a sense of purpose in everything I do (or try to do), and finally Band as a whole, for giving me this amazing experience. At the end of the day, it really wasnt that A1 for CCA that most of us got or that Gold for SYF 2005 that we treasure or remembere, but it was the arduous journey we embarked upon and the trials we encountered that carves our character which we have today.

deco on the ceiling during orientation

I remember exactly 2 weeks before prelims, I made a firm resolution not to step foot into the Band room till after O' Levels. Haha because everytime i stepped in, I would stay for hours and hours... I always feel so proud when i see our next batch in that wonderful room practising. Indeed its not going to be easy, but keep looking up guys!

Faith

hello all:)
I was trying to read all my borrowed books today, so that I could return them to the library tomorrow and I came across something really meaningful, savour and enjoy yea?:):)
SPACING
We often find ourselves alone on that starting line. Unable to see. Blind to whatever lies ahead. Destined, it might seem, to fail.
Which is where faith comes into play. Faith is more than about running in the darkness; it's about being willing to trust someone else to lead us through that darkness.
It's about dropping our pride and, in humility, admitting we can't do it on our own.
It's about tethering ourselves to the God who longs to be our guide and letting Him lead.
Faith it seems is born of courage. It has nothing to do with the eyes, but everything to do with the heart.

Christmas Day #3

hello everyonee!:) heh.
today my day was quite interesting. couldn't have been better:)
haha today I woke up at about 11.45am. yea. haha, not because im a pig no.4 (!!), not because im called pebbles (!!), but because i had a late night. again. anyway, today was probably only the 2nd or 3rd day (i think) that i've been home ever since holidays started.
watched my favourite tv shows and was supposed to make plans with cheryl, since I kind of assumed i was going to be bored today. But praise the Lord, for He's with me all the time, its hard to feel lonely.:) really, since I earned salvation on the 6th of December, I've had this sort of inner joy and companionship i never even need to ask for. :) Thank you God.:)
anyway, instead of making some plans, we talked for about 4 hours, haha:) but we did make plans for new year's eve eh! and next week:) im totally fighting for time to rest and chill and enjoy all you people's company so totally before first 3 months start. heh. "Chiawen, the VJ person havent called me lei! what happened if I got no orientation group?! haha, then i can be all pebbly again:)"

well, have you ever felt so contented of what you are, where you are and of all the things you have? I seldom have such days, but today's one of it. I feel so so thankful for everything I possess, of what I am, and just where I was placed by His hand. Like what so many have said, everything has a creator, just like buildings need contractors and food need chefs and music needs instruments, indeed this wondrous earth, amazingly co-existing with other planets and just staying in the universe needs someone to create and protect. No prizes for guessing who! I really feel so happy that so many were saved during the Christmas musical as what Li shaan said, you guys are going to have the best days ahead! Its the 'best', because you are going to embark on a journey so amazing and fulfilling. Indeed, how great are you Lord!
Im praying that the doors will open for me to go to church soon, please pray for me! Thank you!

Just like the horizon, there are no limits to the power of prayer:)

Sunset at Pasir Ris Park ( I think):)

do you see that small glimmer of hope, just..over there?:)

Christmas fever

hey everyone:)
havent blogged for some time, because i didnt really have the mood to do so, you know, writing needs some inspiration man! ahha:)

Sunday's Christmas musical was greatt guys:)
well done to all the performers, all the effort you put in for countless days have not been wasted at all and i believe the show really touched the hearts of many in the audience:)
Thank God for you people sharing the true message of Christmas. Kudos once again!:)
Praise the Lord for getting Lesley, Jessica, Qian, and Kelly to join me in this wonderful experience! Great company and great program= Great Christmas eve!

cheryl, changsuo and I:))happy happy!

from left to right : jess, chia wen, qian, me, jean, lesley, kelly, and li shaan!!

after that a group of us headed to Marina square to try out Jessie's favourite baked rice. ahha, its great man, $3.50 for baked rice (fish or chicken) and soup. Thank you Marcus for finishing my food, ahha so I didnt need to waste food eh! me and teresa!:))

qian, jess and jessie:))

after that I went to town to meet the other group and had a nice drink and chats:) i was quite heartened to see that even though the rain was coming down on the people in the streets, they were all still brimming with the christmas joy:) indeed, rain is from heaven and we should still bask in the joy and not let it dampen our spirits!my Christmas eve was fabulous spending it with all you friends man! Mass back at my own church was interesting, yea.

***
Christmas Day was fab! because it was like an openhouse at my place, despite some hard work in the kitchen, it was rewarding and satisfying to see my whole extended family sharing and caring:) I guess i havent said this in a long time either, at least out la, but yea, I really love my family man. Thanks daddy for being so patient with me even sometimes when i get so pissed off and stuff. Thanks mummy for always guiding me and forcing me to do things i hate but for my own good. yea. I realised that i seriously wouldn't be where I am if not for such wonderful people like you! Thanks sisters for scolding me when im naughty, pampering me and watching me grow. hugs hugs.

Haha actually today, Cheryl was just asking me about the extent of freedom i get. And i was thinking about it, well, I just realised that actually I have been getting alot of freedom. I've realised that my parents seldom ask who im out with, what i did or what happened. Well, its not that they dont care, but because they trust me and my sisters alot. Praise the Lord for giving me such parents, and I pray that I will never ever betray their trust, ever!!

Christmas Day #2

Yup today was another great day, went out with 26 people (!! ahha) to watch Night at the museum. was super funny, thanks jane and cheryl for hearing my screams and hyperventilating noises and crazy laughters. haha, free entertainment what:)) we had ben and jerry's before that and I shared a nice apple crumble and chunky monkey with cw. :)) nice nice:) met chara and suyi while going down the escalator!!:) then went home with cheryl and jon muk. ok, today was an interesting day on the whole.

ANYWAY, i think im turning nocturnal. I sleep at 2, and wake up at about 11.which is not good! considering school's starting in one week and one day's time. i still feel burnt out from prelims. i seriously cheonged like mad two weeks before prelims. haha imagine cramming two years of work into 2 weeks. i seriously wished i had been more consistent! (haha note: not the o levels, because i slacked then. die!) anyway, yea. still not prepared for first three months! but really thank God the distance btw my house and college ain't too far away. can wake up quite late everyday. haha its an encouragement for me man!:) I have decided to start cultivating some good habits again, like my morning runs at east coast. hope it doesnt rain!:)

some people have been asking if im excited for the start of jc life, and honestly, im numb. hope to get more excited in the coming days though:)

Colour blindness

Wow, I was just enlightened by the fact that one out of every 10 guys are colour blind!...

ok fine, maybe you all knew that already. haha but i only just knew!
so they get to ask examiners the colour changes during chem and bio prac! wow:)
oh yea, and this is because guys have a higher chance of getting the disease due to only needing 1 copy of the colour blind gene to be infected whereas females need two of it.

Woah!

Section 1: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

You appear gentle and soft and you act rather reserved with others until you know them well and feel it is safe to be open with them. You have a strong need for emotional security and a sense of belonging, and are deeply attached to the past: your heritage, roots, family, cherished friends, familiar places, etc. Making radical changes or moves away from what is known and safe can be very painful and difficult for you. You tend to cling and hold on to people, memories, possessions of personal or sentimental significance (yess.. ac band!). Having a home, a safe haven, is very important to you.

Section 2: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation

You are, in many ways, an eternal child. Your mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful, and always eager for new experiences - and your attention span is often quite brief. You grasp ideas quickly and once your initial curiosity has been satisfied, you want to go on to something else. You crave frequent change, variety, meeting new situations and people.

Well, I dont really take to astrological stuff. Yea, but this is amazing man. I can so agree with it, whaddya think?

"You either make the right choice, or you make the choice right"

Hello

Firstly, congrats to pau, alyssa, and ac band friends.
for getting into cj, rj and ac respectively.

I never knew making choices could be so difficult.
this morning, at dawn (9 plus), VJ called. as i was still sleeping soundly, my mum talked to the person-in-charge for a while and got him to call back later.

well, I got into VJ.

but as you can see from my previous post (AC baby!), this wasnt going to be an easy decision.
after talking to the person-in- charge for about half an hour, i was like, "erm, so am i supposed to make my decision now?" and thank goodness he was like, "um, preferably, but i guess you can call back slightly later, you just have to be down at VJ by 12."
phew, that sounded easy, i mean, it was only 9.30.

after i put down the phone, i called like a million people and woke people out of their beds to "advice me". i made long distance calls to argentina even to ask my sister. finally. at the end of everything, i too knew it was ultimately my own decision.

Im going to miss every bit of AC that i know now, even though its just worth a few hours of AC memories, it was enough to stumble me in the decision making process. Im going to miss eating at crystal jade with weiting and chara, miss taking a bus and walking to ac, miss saying "good morning uncle!" to the security guard, miss feeling afraid of stepping into the band rehearsal place, miss meeting samuel for the first time, miss discovering all the dms and bms who were also in ac band, miss screwing up at warm ups, miss michelle (!!), miss percussion section people, present: michelle, samuel, wen long and absentees and miss percussion SL Kristen!!, miss sectionals and reading all the high grade scores for the first time, miss lunch at BK with michelle, wenlong, kenneth and someone else (sorry didnt manage to get your name), miss laughing at wen long as he wore the bk paper hat all the way back to ac, miss going back late, miss running from bus stop to the room, miss sneaking in from the back, miss introducing myself, miss feeling confused at Dr Lee's conducting, miss listening to all the theory stuff, miss wondering what on earth Dr Lee is talking about- pointing fingers at fellow section people of being in the acjc fight club (lol), miss playing all the songs, miss walking out with chara and planning our next outing. hmmmphh. its amazing how one gets attached to something so fast, so quick. i was actually rejoicing by the time i got home on God's decision to place me in the ever-so-not-expected Anglo-Chinese Junior College.

yea, then VJ had to accept me. hmmph. I cant say the exact reasons why i chose VJ either, because its just like that. things had to get worse when i was at AC to appeal OUT, i was at the AC office asking this teacher for directions, and he had to yell all the way to the other side of the office "ay, this one want to go out to VJ lei, how ah?" while the whole world around me was appealing IN. the lady also had to say to each and every one "you're really very lucky, boy/girl, 200 over appeals you know? only a handful can get in!". staring at each proud mother's beam upon their shining star, I was left to the nearly invisible queue that read [ TO APPEAL OUT].

I also had to meet two other AC band people Geraldine (is that your name?) and Jefri. they were looking excited, but were quite quiet when i told them I wasnt going to see them on saturday. -_- I was seriously wondering at that time "what do you think you are playing at, meiyi?!" Decisions are never easy, and sometimes made worse by the twists of fate.

Thank you seniors at AC especially for giving me such a rousing and encouraging welcome, thanks for not feeling pissed that i backed out. Thanks Kristen for not feeling dreadful even though you had just divided the parts out for each member ytd. Thank you!

surprising how such a simple decision can alter your life forever. like i was telling alyssa, its not that im regretting my decision of going to ac, its just the sad sad feeling? you know what i mean?
im not doubting VJ's possible fun-ness and success,

its just the feeling of wondering what would happen if you took the other path?

I want the whole world

hello!

I was just chatting to camille, and im going to miss her so much!! why cant you come AC as well??? anyway, i wish i could go to ALL THE SCHOOLs, and go through 3 months in every school, just so that i can have a nice fair judgement of every school, ( and make so many many friends) then i can choose properly for JAE. HAHA. oh well. anyway, im going to see how the $3.90 breakfast at Crystal Jade is like tomorrow (material for makan minutes #2 :)))with weiting and chara, then head to AC for band prac from 10 to 5!! woah!! so taa, im going to take my beauty sleep now!=D

AC Baby!

Hello everyone!
Yes, i got into ACJC for 1st 3 months! Haha there's this tinge of elation in me right now, but also a feeling of regret of not getting into VJ.
Well, i remember right before i entered the page on the results, i left the result in God's hands, because i had this great hunch that something unexpected could happen. with my results i should have gotten into VJ, yea but fortunately or unfortunately, i got into AC! haha, well, im joined by dearies Jean, Lesley, Bev etc. so im pretty pleased!
This choice of schools affected me quite alot, having considered factors like academics, band, whether or not it was a christian school and distance. I finally made my decision to stick by academics and distance, so i chose VJ as first choice. However, the current result is almost the direct opposite. Haha AC band rocks and it is a christian school.but its nearly across the island from where i hibernate! that's interesting.
Well, I was quite ok, till I heard that many of my much-deserving 3 or 4 pointer friends didnt manage to get their first choices (RJ, HC). Then, i started to get quite disturbed, when my friend who got 10 points got into CJ. (??!!)
Anyway, i hope this post will console and convince many disillusioned people out there, its ok, lets just whack it out and have fun for 1st 3 months!=DD

The Nativity Story

Two nights ago, I watched The Nativity Story. It was short and sweet, beautiful! Just as how Christ's birth was depicted in the bible, the settings of each scene were aptly matched and it was just amazing how the settings were so humble yet so beautiful and close to us. I was especially touched by Joseph's self sacrificial nature and Mary's unwavering faith in the Lord. Even when all the tides were turned against her, as no one believed how she was conceived by the holy Spirit, she stood firm and placed her trust in Him. It is a movie not to be missed, go catch it!

This Christmas is going to be so special for me, hope its going to be the same for you, Cheers!

Meiyi's Makan Minutes :))

MAKAN MINUTES!!

Haha, as most of my canteen mates will know, I am a foodie person!! haha i can eat SO much, its just a matter of time the food's finished.=D with such experience, i've decided to post a foodie tip for many more food junkies out there! Have fun savouring this! :)

#1: Beef Noodles at Great World City

no, its not about the noodles, but its the chilli im talking about!:) finely grinded chilli paste without a trace of the nasty chilli padi seeds and having a fragrant onion scent, yummy! not to forget, add in a small spoonful of the usually provided shrimp paste (white thick liquid). It is insoluble in the chilli paste and thus forms a very nice pattern on your chilli plate. Adding in on to the beef noodles, its so good, you wont miss this dish for the world!

#2: 'Rojak' at Marriot Hotel Cafe

unlike normal rojaks found almost anywhere in sunny Singapore, the Rojak served at Marriot Hotel Cafe is one of a kind, not to be missed! Nicely toasted till crisp tau poks and you tiaos, added onto the simmering scented brown sauce and expertly mixed together, this dish can serve as a main dish, and the portion is quite large it can be shared with a friend or two. The pineapple bits are sensitively cut and not too sweet nor too sour, and the radishes are thin slices, making it easier to be eaten. Did i mention too, the shaved peanuts are also toasted so that when added on top of the dish it emits a fragrance so heavenly?!

#3: Apple crumble at Serangoon Gardens Food Centre

yummy for dessert! it adds a light tinge to your tastebuds after a heavy savoury meal. unlike many apple crumbles, the crust of flakes and light and fine, and the apple bits in it are not sticky and starchy. Furthermore, its sold cheap as compared to cafes. Go try it!

ok, catch makan minutes on its next edition soon! taa... and bon appetit!=D

Nostalgia

hello all. :)

I was packing all my stuff at home yesterday and today, clearing out loads of things, and I discovered some pretty interesting stuff. Well, to begin with, it was kind of nostalgic opening all the cute small little packages and reading letters received from friends. Its like travelling back to the time when you were in close contact with them, when we shared crazy (definitely) laughter and screams of madness. Yea, those were the times. Interestingly, my statistics gathered have shown that the most number of such wonderful stuff received were from band-its. yay, go SC Band!! It really rocks to have such great batch-mates, who have endured and celebrated 4 years with you. Unlike classmates and groupings, these group of people stay together as a batch for FOUR years!! Special thanks go to Joanne, Chara and Eunice. Yay, I love you funky people!

One especially heartwarming thing I found... was from Majella Tay Shen Ee! Haha, who else! The cover page of her letter goes like this :

To: Meiyi
4th Table from the Front Door
Front Row (grrrr):)
SCGS
4GY'o6

On the right hand corner she draws a stamp,
on the left she says: "If undelivered, throw in the dustbin"

:))

Let me share this with all of you:

A Story on Friendship

Friend and Acquaintance

There is a difference between being an acquaintance and being a friend. An acquaintance is someone whose name you know, who you see every now and then, who you probably have something in common with and who you feel comfortable around.

It's a person that you can invite to your home and share things with. But they are people who you don't share your life with, whose actions sometimes you just don't understand because you don't know enough about them.

On the other hand, a friend is someone you love. Not that you are in "love" with them, but you care about them and you think about them when they are not there. The people you are reminded of when you see something they might like, and you know this because you know them so well. They are the people whose pictures you have and whose faces are in your head regardless.

Friends are the people you feel safe around because you know they care about you. They call just to see how you are doing, because a friend doesn't need an excuse. They tell you the truth, the first time, and you do the same. You know that if you have a problem, they are there to listen.

Friends are the people who won't laugh at you or hurt you, and if they do hurt you they try hard to make it up to you. They are the people you love, regardless of whether you realize it.

Friends are the people you cried with when you got rejected from colleges and during the last song at the prom and at graduation. They are the people that when you hug them, you don't think about how long to hug and who's going to be the first one to let go.

Maybe they are the people that hold the rings at your wedding, or maybe they are the people who give you away at your wedding, or maybe they are the people you marry. Maybe they are the people who cry at your wedding because they are happy or because they are proud.

They are the people who stop you from making mistakes and help you when you do. They are the people whose hand you can hold, or you can hug or give them a kiss and not have it be awkward because they understand the things you do and they love you for them.

They stick with you and stand by you. They hold your hand. They watch you live and you watch them live and you learn from them. Your life is not the same without them.

Do you see anything in common in all these pictures?

Yea, they are all really chio. HAHA.

they all bring joy to our hearts when we see them!
Well, I really thank God for in my relatively short life of 16 years, I have found so many friends, more friends than mere acquaintances, and truly, you guys are huge blessings to me and have helped me become what I am today. Thank you!

The 'Kite' pulled back on track

Hello all of you!

Firstly, I would like to thank God for all you wonderful friends, who are willing to read my "rants" and giving me advice. Without all of you, this blog would be no use at all and a waste of time.

Secondly, I would like to thank Him for bringing me to Uth Camp from the 4th to the 8th. Indeed, it was a life-changing experience and I am awed by God's concern for me even though I have strayed so far away, and hardly seeming like a child of God at certain junctures (actually most of the time).

Thank you Chia Wen, Jean, Li Shaan, Daphne, Carsmon, Amos, Marcus, Melvin, Jeremy, Lynn Shan, Audrey, Beverly, Jolene, Amelia, Amanda, Chang Shuo, Cherie, Hui Shan, Christina, Cheryl, Karlos, Cassandra, Theresa, Jill, Derek, Rogan, Samantha, Stephanie, James, Ian, Pastor Mike and so many more I have shared a smile or a word or two with! You guys are really greaat!

Never before this camp did I realise that indeed did I need salvation from Christ and that a whole lot of changes had to be executed in my life to even be just a satisfactory child of God. I am on fire for Jesus now, and with his Grace this fire will never flicker nor be extinguished. Praise the Lord for his Grace IS sufficient.

Indeed it is true that Jesus' followers will need to endure a period of persecution for standing up fo Him. Currently, I am facing parental disapproval on the topic of converting church to GLCC. I know my mother loves me too dearly to allow me to embark on this new journey, and i understand her worry. But somehow I have a certain confidence that God will open a door for me soon enough. I initially wanted to join Chia wen and the rest at the service tomorrow, and next friday, and next Sunday, and so on, however it doesn't seem to possible at this stage. Oh no! Please pray for me! Like what Marcus said, being obedient to your parents is also a very important thing to do, and I don't intend to go against my dear mummy, so yea, ill see how it goes, like i said to many people, if you do see me at tmr's service, its indeed God's work. =D

It seems quite trying now, because even if I manage to get past my mom, when my Dad gets back from the US i have to pluck up courage and garner strength to get past him, an even greater barrier!

Going to make a reply call to Chia wen now, all the best and may the Lord bless you guys in whatever you do.

Love,
Meiyi
(a winter warrior)
=D

Bye!

Hello everyone!
I'm almost done packing, Praise the Lord!
My cough, fever and sore throat have disappeared for quite a bit, and I AM excited.

Today I went to Vivo, purchased quite a lot from Nike Bird, where the salesperson totally freaked me out, and got some deco for my home during Christmas. Have managed to persuade my Mum to let me stay in Singapore for Christmas. Yess! So that I can have a party at my place! yay!Any people having no plans for Christmas? Can come join in my 'family and friends' gathering!

Actually, I kind of miss my SC friends suddenly, because almost everyone has left for overseas.
Even my sister is in Argentina (where she has been INSTRUCTED by me to get Messi's (!!) autograph when she goes watch the soccer match), and my Dad is in Bangkok, later on heading to USA.

Now its my turn, a small get-away from home, though I know Im going to miss it so much, blogging and all. HAHA.

Till the 8th, see you all!Hugs!

To the Apex

This year's SCGS Concert Band Camp was held from 29th Nov to the 1st of December 2006. The theme was "To the Apex".
I went for the three days, but not for the full 3 days with visits to town and shopping for groceries for our dear band-its.

Because of my late night the previous day, i only woke up about 9 so i reached school at about 10, sat in with their band prac. During their games, Mr Jeow, Diana and I took a drive to Thomson plaza to buy bread for their breakfast the next morning and to buy an 'Igloo' to store their drinks. The latter cost 89 bucks which was quite ex, so we decided to go look further at Toa Payoh Central. Over there, we could only come close to finding like a barrel style of liquid holder, which diana decided would turn off all the pampered kids as they had to scoop the water out themselves. So mr jeow drove all the way back to Thomson Plaza so that Diana and I could get off and buy that. unfortunately, once we were going to pay for it, the lady at the counter announced that the price tag was wrong and that it actually cost 149 bucks.. !!!!!!!What! $149 for an 18litre dispenser!! ok, with that, we decided not to buy it at all and just ask the campers to use their waterbottle. (which should have been the deal to start off with)

I was kind of disturbed at this current trend of SC people being very pampered. Other band campers are super stressed to their limits, while our dear people have FRESH bread for breakfast and people running around to buy a water dispenser for them. Well, we cant really blame them, for its actually their parents' fault. I think mr jeow had earned too many complaints and was sick and tired of them, and so was willing to do all these for them.

Dear Parents, I wish you would be more ready to let your kids face the 'real world', the grass on the other side where its not that perfect after all, uneven patches, burnt patches, for in the 'real world', they are in abundance.

Anyway, all the meals throughout the camp were super good la. on the first day after that grocery shopping, i went to town with Diana and Weiting and Angeline. Diana had to check her SIA ticket at paragon to extend her stay, angeline was going to town to buy her prom dress (which was obviously in the end too late to), weiting had to buy gifts for her conductor and guests for her ac band concert the next day, and I had to go to Crown Hotel to pass melvin his earpiece he left in my bag. after all those tasks were completed, we went to taka to take-away Yakitori. Angeline met her friend Dominic and they left after that while the three of us took a bus back to school. during the bus trip we started talking about ghosts. haha what a random topic yea but it was kind of was in prep for that night's activity. anyway weiting told us some really FREAKY stuff about the music centre at ac.
Future AC ppl, stay away from the music centre!!

We watched 'Take the Lead' (which was sizzling hot!) with the band in school while eating and at night we had night games which were so fun! they had to go around school looking for clues for it and had to search for 'missing' kelly and camilla (it would certainly have helped if kelly and camilla weren't mobile though). I left at about 11.30pm because i realised I didnt bring my contacts and stuff. It was super funny because all the gates were locked so i had to climb over the gates!! It was so fun and diana was helping me but weiting was just laughing and laughing and laughing. Man. haha I didnt realise how dangerous it was till after I climbed over. When I went into my Dad's car, he didnt even ask a word of why I was climbing over, which was a far cry from what my mum would have done.

The next day, I reached back school about 9.30 and joined the red group (Abram's Pursuit) for the annual band amazing race!Like what I was telling Eunice Lim, i couldnt believe this was the 5th time I was running all around Singapore, adding on to those done in prefects GIB, i have gone on amazing races and variations for nearly 8 times in my SC life! indeed a holistic education! haha. We started off finding shells at East Coast Park, then went to Hougang's Festival Mall to find Mangolia Rice to eat, then Chinatown to count the no. of building on Pagoda Street, then Clementi to act out a scene from a video starring a particular actor from Video-ezy shop, then finally Botanics to find the Tembusu tree and other tasks. It was super tiring by the time we ran back it was 5 something, and we were FIRST! the rest of the groups came back round 6 and by the time they had dinner was about 7. Fish and Chips lei! I ate Mr jeow's share since he was missing in action. hha, unfortunately, it was really rushed for me because by the time i finished dinner it was 7.10pm. 20 min for me to change and rush of to ACSi for the Band Concert in which many friends were performing!

So I rushed like mad and cabbed there and was in time! Yay! I got such amusement from jill during the whole thing. man the concert was so much more worth it I thought it should have been an 80 bucks concert more than a 10 bucks one. Firstly, so many familiar faces, so many pro solos and one from weiting (!!), such nice company and super good songs! -star wars, harry potter, the incredibles, westside story, superman, jurassic park, robinhood, pirates of the carribean: Dead Man's Chest!!! It was SOOO good. the melodies and harmonies were cohesive, close attention paid to phrase endings and the running notes from every section were just impressive man! Kudos! during the interval Jill and I met Chara and Suyi outside and showed them the prom photos. Haha chara was so amused that i placed her photo with me on the front page. HAHA. the concert ended late, at about 11 and then jill and i went to check out the toilets and the new compound. wah everything was so nice and the taps are automatic. what a good deal for a SCHOOL. haha rekha and other acsib ppl will be super shiok next year man. Man, this concert really made me regret further for not putting AC as my first choice, of course its not just the facilities, but also the people and band and seniors.

Weiting and I Weiting and her friend

By then it was about 11.40 plus then Diana and I waited for the star weiting and Kenneth to arrive, then we went out for supper at holland village. ate at crystal jade and talked and blahhed till 12 plus. Got a lift from kenneth's parents to the stretch outside Gospel Light. Diana and I cabbed back to school. Hha had to get mr jeow to open the gates for us, since we decided not to climb over the gates. went upstairs to room 99 and 100 was greeted by jasmine chiam and peace who came back to visit too!! yay, with such seniors, how to sleep! So I stayed up with them, talking and laughing and basically catching up with SO much stuff. we also played the FIFA 2006 version of Monopoly. So fun! the band-its woke up about 7 and then had drills and breakfast. Peace, jasmine and I order macs!
Till then, i had neither bathed, nor slept. Wah i felt so shagged I had to get home to take a bath and catch some sleep.

It was such a pleasant surprise that mummy was on leave so she fetched me home. yay, i only had time to bathe and eat though because had to rush back to school by 1.30 to watch them for band prac. we also had a fruitful marching video prac but unfortunately could not do it as kelly was unwell. after breaking camp, my section wanted to play monopoly so we played till 7 plus. Mum came to fetch me and we had dinner at Newton FC. Yayness!

These 3 days were absolutely jam packed and exciting. I love love love love the company, our school, the outings and activities.

However, my body was also absolutely fatigued and ill. Still the persistent slight fever for many days, sore throat and coughing. yikes. I was hoping Iwould be able to recover in time by Monday to go for the church camp! This morning was pretty bad and I was depressed for a while because i thought i wouldnt be able to go but by now, its actually quite good. yayness, praise the Lord!

well, since its past midnight now, I have to go catch some sleep since Im going to church early tmr, then vivo for more shopping. yay i REALLY LOVE THE holidays man!

Gay business

hello! It feels gooood to blog! Yes, im actually sitting in front my computer at home and having time to blog because my body has finally been wrecked. I was supposed to wake up early this morning and join SC band at their exchange with UWC now but when my alarm rang at about 10 this morning, I got up and I couldnt even see properly. I was so giddy I thought i was going to die. Yea, guess my body just had to do that to make sure I wasnt going to torture it further. So here I am, instead of at UWC, so sad i can't meet up with wei ting there!

As i told Chia Wen, this is a result of a sustaining sore throat and cough and slight fever for the past few days and, ignorance on my part. I have just been ignoring it so that I can still go out and play. I have lost track of the date and time, i think i have to start making amendments now. Well, let me start putting the past behind me by blogging all about it. =p

I think everything started from the lack of rest after Prom. Then I started ignoring my cough and body-fatigue by going for 2 BBQs -- Chia wen's and the NCO reunion. Let me blog on the latter.
I was actually punctual, no, early for our gathering at Pasir Ris MRT! yes, for once in my life I was early for a non-formal meeting! I was so proud about it I told like 10 people. Met natalie and the rest of them. We were joined by a few 32nds who were so shy! Then liangjie, marcus, nat, and I went to the NTUC to buy the drinks and ice and we took the trolley of tons all the way to the bus interchange to wait for the bus. It was super hilarious after that because liangjie and marcus managed to get the 1 buck out of the trolley so that they didnt have to push it all the way back. So much for being responsible citizens huh. Shall not blog on the dinner itself in entirety because so many many things happened it would be abnormal to blog all about it. By 9 something dinner was almost over and then a group of us headed downtown to play pool. Hha it was more fun sitting at the side chatting to the people who were not down at the table though.
We left at about 11 plus and by the time i hit the pillow it was about 1. yay!

The next day I already had a sore throat and cough due to the bbq (carbon coveted) meal the night before.
On Tuesday, i met up with vanessa and melvin to help him buy his prom stuff for wednesday and watch wan's concert. I never thought it was so hard to buy prom stuff for a guy, but you bet it was. We finally got all the stuff by about 4 then headed to cine to watch Battle of Wits. I spotted another gay! He was the ticket box counter man! Oh dear, I have this strange obsession nowadays- looking out for gays! ok, i must stop this bad habit. (although its just irresistible) The movie was good, despite someone repetitively claiming it was lame. By the time we finished, we had TEN minutes to get down to VCH. So we cabbed there and got let in after Juying's Sec Sch's 1st piece. Ok la, the concert wasnt that bad, but i still felt a little heartache for that 10 bucks I had to pay. :(
after the concert we joined liangjie, zhumei and huiling. we walked all the way down clarke quay and was constantly entertained by liangjie-melvin antics. Man, I really love lj's nicely-purpled hair. I have just come to the conclusion that dying hair can be really cool and worth it if you do it with a good sense of fashion. like his and jillian chim's. Nice! We finally left for town again after deciding that there was really nothing much to eat around that area unless we wanted to step into Momo.
We went back to cine and ate at pastamania. we blahhed till about 11 plus again then planned to head home. But lo and behold! Bryant had to sms melvin something like ' I can wait to meet up with you later before heading home'. i mean, bryant might not be gay but his words are sometimes phrased so well to suit this gay business. haha I couldnt resist this and told the rest of them about him all the way from sa tune in till that day itself. his behaviour was so intriguing we decided to all meet up with him! So we deviced this plan to meet up with him and kind of like check him out: lj was to walk in front and wink at bryant cheekily (for being gayish). melvin and I would then talk to him, (which was a pity because i wanted to pretend that I didnt know him)and zhumei and huiling was to keep giggling at him and melvin.

so, we went to raffles place interchange and the plan was near successful. I was dying to try keep a straight face when i saw lj and the rest standing around pretending to not know anyone at all and of course laughed when i couldnt help it. luckily Bryant didnt sense anything wrong. hha both of them walked me to my train platform to catch the last train. yess! i was relieved of his company once i stepped on the train. however, the saga didnt end for the rest of them since they had to tolerate him on the train heading west! I reached home and conked out at about 2.

by then, my sore throat was like numb to me, i couldnt feel anymore pain! hurray!
ok, i have to go to the airport now to send my sister off to Argentina. So much for being ill! will blog on SC camp and ac concert later.

Thank you Lord for giving me the opportunity to live life while Im young, for letting me the opportunity to enjoy and sing and dance and laugh and run, for letting me feel ill and wrecked, for letting me feel fatigue. indeed, you are my Lord.

Valediction

I was just rummaging through my papers at home, finding more stuff to recycle, and then i saw this. Well, i think it would be familiar to all those under Miss Sie for English, but since majority of you shouldnt be, here goes:

I don't know about you, but my idea of a graduation was one outdoors where the sun shines and the soft breeze blows. And the ceremony would end with mortar-boards filling the skies. But since it's evening, and dawn for all the insects, I guess we’ll settle for air-conditioning and comfortable seats.

Family and friends, we are gathered here today to end a chapter of 203 individual paperback novels. This particular chapter of our lives spans a period of 10 years for some, 4 years for others.

Lightweight and compact, it serves as a reference material for our later lives. This chapter contains phone numbers of friends, memories of true friendship; the anguish and frustrations of growing up, failures and bad grades; the happy times we smashed birthday cake into each others faces; the times we played ‘zero-point’ on the front porch after school; the art of mimicking teachers; the location of the best ‘mee pok’ stall in Singapore, and the meaning of being a person.

Such a valuable book, you say, and the publishers didn’t bind it in leather with gold trim? No, this book is not to be treated like a set of Brittanica Encyclopedia, this book is not for display; it is to be read to shreds, doggy-eared, underlined, high-lighted, commented on, carried around, soaked in the rain, quoted from like an O’level literature text. The only thing that we cannot do to it is rewrite it.

No other book, I guarantee, will teach us to be frank and laugh at ourselves. Which street directory will give you the exact locations of the ‘red bricks’, ‘stone tables’ or ‘yellow railings’—where one is likely to find a SC girl doing last minute homework as she is to hear the latest local gossip. This sacred book will tease your imagination into remembering the horrors of handing in late-work, and og course instruct you, step-by-step, on fool-proof methods to getting out of trouble.

SCGS is a microcosm of the real world. It is the training ground of a privileged few who are brought together by fate and welded into one soul by the SC spirit.

There is no secret to success. SC’s success is due to Sincerity, Courage, Generosity and Service. No one person is responsible for the growth and cultivation of an SCGS ‘Kim Gek’. Many thanks must be given to the people who made the buds blossom.

Thank you teachers for rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty in the process of sculpting us. Thank you for paying attention to the details we always leave out. Thank you for instilling that we not only know how to buy a drink from the vending machine, but also learn how a vending machine works, so that we can get a drink even without money. Most of all, thank you for caring enough to scream, yell and shout at us; we know it’s your indirect way of saying you love us very much, but you honestly shouldn’t feel shy about saying how you really feel.

We must not, of course forget our non-teaching staff. The office-staff who print all our much-dreaded exam and test papers, and also hide them with so much skill that we can’t put fire to them. The cleaning ladies who keep our school cleaner than our bedrooms despite the fact that we spend more time in school than our bedrooms. To the gardener who keeps the school’s padi-field’ neat, tidy and free of dog turd. And not forgetting to mention the canteen stall- holders who make school food with breaking our day-old crash diets. Thank you, all of you.

As you can see, everyone in SCGS is involved in polishing the jewels that leave Emerald Hill. From the school cat, to the always underfoot primary school girls, to the teachers, to the non-teaching staff, to the sexually curious secondary school girls, to the principal. Should one fail to do his or her part, the whole structure will crumble – this interdependency is what makes the SC spirit so undivided, a single unit, a family.

Today, 203 young ladies will be unleashed into the world they have been prepared for. Although each is an individual who will follow her heart and pursue her own goals and ambitions, they all share a common spirit, the SC spirit, which will always be a part of them where ever they go – for now and forever.

Caroline Lee
Sec 4/1
29th September 1993

Well, it seems so different from the last time I read it. Then, we were sitting in our wonderful 4 gy classroom, complaining that we had to write some silly testimonial, but now after graduating, and changing the tense from being 'in SCGS' to being 'from SCGS', this valediction seems so much more genuine and true. though it was meant for the graduation sec 4 batch of 1993, these emotions are certainly not to fade with time. After the loss of our wonderful Mee Pok man a few weeks ago, dear do we miss that mee pok. My order would be : "Hi uncle!! err kuai ban kway teow gan ($1.50 dry), bu yao la jiao (no chilli) , jia duo dian chu (add more vinegar), hai you jia san mao rou!(and also add 30 cents worth of meat)". Thank you uncle for totally being able to understand my almost incomprehensible chinese. Sometimes we do have to no longer possess something before we feel the pain of losing it. Well, Ms Caroline Lee ( not sure of her status now) has mentioned, some girls have spent 10 years and some 4 years in SC.

For me, it would have to be only 4 years, but my SC life has and will certainly neither be --lightweight, nor compact.

Choices

Choices- the main issue we struggle with in our everyday life. As for me - tomorrow night? or how about the 30th? or the 1st maybe? oh wait, maybe dinner like now?

Well, people always complain when they are given no choice at all, but isn't having one too many choices even worse?

meiyi (s)

Hello again, im kind of disturbed that there are so many meiyi's even in a little small dot like Singapore. Especially for someone called melvin aka maoshi, 'meiyi' doesnt sound too good, does it? Well, actually the biggest disturbance to my inner equilibrium was when i attempted to get my password and username from blogger, and they started giving me a whole list of possible usernames they have in their database, variations of 'meiyi' : meiyimeiyimeiyi, mei-yi, mei23 etc. see that? mei 23? this person even shares the same favourite number as me! man! im totally insignificant. thats why, i had to blast meiyifong as my blog title. you over there, geddit? im meiyifong! im not just another meiyi you see walking down the street. ok??

The much awaited night

Prom is a term technically only for the celebration involving the graduating J2 batch where both sexes- male and female, (and maybe other combinations) are involved. =D therefore, the wonderful event held at Regent hotel on the 23rd of November 2006 should actually just be called a Graduation Night, and not prom! but whatever it is, it was truly a wonderful time for me and i thank thank thank the exco for all their hard work! while the rest of us were slogging over Os, dear babes had prom at the back of their heads- hoping to plan the most wonderful night for all us SC kim-geks. to my dear Cam, Jean, Lishan, Val, Stef,Shong, Bev your efforts were definitely not wasted!

on my part, the dinner meant so much more to me than just dressing up and getting manicures and fake lashes and whatever not. just throughout that splendid day, i learnt loads about many other things. Well, i did my hair and make up at Jean Yip at plaza sing, and boy was it memorable. plucking eyebrows is such a painful ordeal- torturous! other than that, me and mum were rushing around like mad, buying and trying on stuff, basically exemplifying the result of my bad habit: procrastination and "leaving things to the last minute"-indeed.

finally, I reached Regent, half an hour later than the supposed meeting time, and starting taking many pictures with Lesley and company! Many said they couldnt really tell that it was me but the responses were varied, so oh well. haha what amused me was that nearly everyone could tell my eyelashes were fake! Nooo!

At our table sat zara, rekha, cheryl, amanda, ying, jill, jean, chiawen, koon and I. it was enjoyable esp with reks opposite constantly trying to grab my attention (ahha!). the food was good and i think i ate the most! man, its always me! haha i love food! isnt it great to be able to eat?! Giants must Fall should deserve to be applauded larh for their enthusiasm and willingness to perform for a bunch of 16 year olds. I especially loved the 'chasing cars' version which was obviously made popular by MY idol Jonathan Leong! haha of course i was talking and laughing as much as i was eating and therefore the meal ended much faster than i thought it would. while the other classes went on stage to take pictures, 4gy decided to be fresh once again and took the spiral staircase outside. yayness.after taking more and more photos,

my wonderful class partner Alyssa a.k.a my very own 'koomama' and I! aah! my wonderful becky!! haah thanks for all the things you've for me! ultra-thankful! mmm!
camille!! hope we both get into vj next year! haha then i dont have to say goodbye to you dearest little piece of thing right now!=D
my wonderful lumsai! aah! what would i do without you??
jeansies and I!!

QIANN??!!!
chia wen (!!) miss tan and I!

chimmy and I! haha you should have turned around jill!

chiawen jean and i finally came to a conclusion that we were indeed gonna crash ll's house and spread the joy to her - the anti-prommer. haha but we walked down the streets of orchard to view the lighting and we came to yet another conclusion that it was super overdone. i mean the lights were like nice but too many and too thick, it seems like a carpet or something haha. we finally decided to stop walking in our dresses and (chia wen's heels) and cabbed all the way to Tai Hwan Crescent. Yes, ll's house.

haha at ll's house, we watched disc 2 of drumline, disc 1's content being verbally told by me since it was stuck in my dvd player at home! watched band of brothers, then camped at her rooftop. haha chia wen went to sleep while the 3 of us played..MONOPOLY! hahaha it was funn reliving our younger days! anyway yea till like 6 then we flew miniature kites! haha ll's house is just full of entertainment! yea after chia wen woke up we walked to serangoon gardens to eat breakfast! yum! and my whole plate of apple crumbs flew onto chiawen when the fan blew at her direction! haha! after we returned back to ll's house we just talked for 3 hours while jean took frequent doses of sleep. the rain was super heavy and we all had to wait till like 1 then we could leave. man i felt ultra weird on the bus still with my prom hair and all haha but it comes to a time when i dont really care too much about what others think of me (maybe to a certain extent la) so i was still all cheery on the bus.

Chia Wen sleeping!

Us watching and (dying)
back home i had a fun time dismantling my hair and had a few shampooing sessions and a bath then rushed out to plaza sing again for an hour and a half's organ lesson. yess music lessons are cool because every week i seem to see someone new in my class! its quite weird but im not sure how yamaha's planning goes. after that took a bus to crown centre to meet jill. ON THE BUS: i met adeline and angeline ( ex-sc bandits who are currently in ac ) and one more person now j1 in ac i think- i didnt manage to get his name but sounded quite disappointed when i said nearly no one was going for ac's tune in the next day. haha. met wenhui also who sweetly showed me this year band camp's booklet but soon after i had to rush down the bus. talking about that sometimes some people on the bus really amuse me. they sit on the outer seat of the bus column and when the person sitting inside (me) tries to excuse herself so that she and her big bag can come out, they know the magnitude of this whole thing trying to get past them but they only move like an inch to their left.?? haha so i just like squeezed my way through, not sure if my big bag grazed him/ her or something, i didnt have the time to turn around to apologise because by the time i squeezed out and ran down the bus i think Mr. Bus driver was too impatient and drove off immediately.sorry mr/ms if my bag grazed any part of you!=D

after meeting jill, we headed to adam food centre to meet chiawen and koon then headed off to her church -Gospel Light. it was a warm place and the food was good. it was even more amusing meeting Robindro Chatterji- the pro sji lit presenter at our symposium this year. well after that, koon and i had an eventful time figuring out the 9- card game some of the church senior's were putting up. Man sometimes i think i really think too much. Chiawen's church was nice and for awhile i suddenly thought of this : "Be still and know that I am God" -Psalms 46:10. Indeed, amidst all this hustle and bustle and dance and fun, it is indeed rewarding to our souls to thank Him above for even giving us the opportunity to enjoy this. Indeed, all in God's grace.

Till then i hadnt slept since the morning of prom! and the surprising thing was i wasnt even tired! another late night and by the time i reached home i conked out almost immediately! yayness!

electrified

hello everyone!!! you cant imagine how excited I am now!! oh my! haha i FINALLY remembered my username and password so i can now enter blogger to blog!! HEH i think its really cool when you totally forget something, and like maybe 2 days later you remember it so clearly its like you never forgot it at all. haha wish that could have happened on the day of our history paper man! Anyway, this post is going to be short because i want to see how it looks on the front page first. HAHA. Miss ANDRENALINE is totally pumping man!By the way, as so many of you have commented, the previous blog is so lorrainish because it was indeed her brainchild. haha thankyou lorraine for helping me put this together, along with the backup of my other slaves chiawen and jean! of course, pau was indispensable too! thanks!
