To the Apex
This year's SCGS Concert Band Camp was held from 29th Nov to the 1st of December 2006. The theme was "To the Apex".
I went for the three days, but not for the full 3 days with visits to town and shopping for groceries for our dear band-its.
Because of my late night the previous day, i only woke up about 9 so i reached school at about 10, sat in with their band prac. During their games, Mr Jeow, Diana and I took a drive to Thomson plaza to buy bread for their breakfast the next morning and to buy an 'Igloo' to store their drinks. The latter cost 89 bucks which was quite ex, so we decided to go look further at Toa Payoh Central. Over there, we could only come close to finding like a barrel style of liquid holder, which diana decided would turn off all the pampered kids as they had to scoop the water out themselves. So mr jeow drove all the way back to Thomson Plaza so that Diana and I could get off and buy that. unfortunately, once we were going to pay for it, the lady at the counter announced that the price tag was wrong and that it actually cost 149 bucks.. !!!!!!!What! $149 for an 18litre dispenser!! ok, with that, we decided not to buy it at all and just ask the campers to use their waterbottle. (which should have been the deal to start off with)
I was kind of disturbed at this current trend of SC people being very pampered. Other band campers are super stressed to their limits, while our dear people have FRESH bread for breakfast and people running around to buy a water dispenser for them. Well, we cant really blame them, for its actually their parents' fault. I think mr jeow had earned too many complaints and was sick and tired of them, and so was willing to do all these for them.
Dear Parents, I wish you would be more ready to let your kids face the 'real world', the grass on the other side where its not that perfect after all, uneven patches, burnt patches, for in the 'real world', they are in abundance.
Anyway, all the meals throughout the camp were super good la. on the first day after that grocery shopping, i went to town with Diana and Weiting and Angeline. Diana had to check her SIA ticket at paragon to extend her stay, angeline was going to town to buy her prom dress (which was obviously in the end too late to), weiting had to buy gifts for her conductor and guests for her ac band concert the next day, and I had to go to Crown Hotel to pass melvin his earpiece he left in my bag. after all those tasks were completed, we went to taka to take-away Yakitori. Angeline met her friend Dominic and they left after that while the three of us took a bus back to school. during the bus trip we started talking about ghosts. haha what a random topic yea but it was kind of was in prep for that night's activity. anyway weiting told us some really FREAKY stuff about the music centre at ac. Future AC ppl, stay away from the music centre!!
We watched 'Take the Lead' (which was sizzling hot!) with the band in school while eating and at night we had night games which were so fun! they had to go around school looking for clues for it and had to search for 'missing' kelly and camilla (it would certainly have helped if kelly and camilla weren't mobile though). I left at about 11.30pm because i realised I didnt bring my contacts and stuff. It was super funny because all the gates were locked so i had to climb over the gates!! It was so fun and diana was helping me but weiting was just laughing and laughing and laughing. Man. haha I didnt realise how dangerous it was till after I climbed over. When I went into my Dad's car, he didnt even ask a word of why I was climbing over, which was a far cry from what my mum would have done.
The next day, I reached back school about 9.30 and joined the red group (Abram's Pursuit) for the annual band amazing race!Like what I was telling Eunice Lim, i couldnt believe this was the 5th time I was running all around Singapore, adding on to those done in prefects GIB, i have gone on amazing races and variations for nearly 8 times in my SC life! indeed a holistic education! haha. We started off finding shells at East Coast Park, then went to Hougang's Festival Mall to find Mangolia Rice to eat, then Chinatown to count the no. of building on Pagoda Street, then Clementi to act out a scene from a video starring a particular actor from Video-ezy shop, then finally Botanics to find the Tembusu tree and other tasks. It was super tiring by the time we ran back it was 5 something, and we were FIRST! the rest of the groups came back round 6 and by the time they had dinner was about 7. Fish and Chips lei! I ate Mr jeow's share since he was missing in action. hha, unfortunately, it was really rushed for me because by the time i finished dinner it was 7.10pm. 20 min for me to change and rush of to ACSi for the Band Concert in which many friends were performing!
So I rushed like mad and cabbed there and was in time! Yay! I got such amusement from jill during the whole thing. man the concert was so much more worth it I thought it should have been an 80 bucks concert more than a 10 bucks one. Firstly, so many familiar faces, so many pro solos and one from weiting (!!), such nice company and super good songs! -star wars, harry potter, the incredibles, westside story, superman, jurassic park, robinhood, pirates of the carribean: Dead Man's Chest!!! It was SOOO good. the melodies and harmonies were cohesive, close attention paid to phrase endings and the running notes from every section were just impressive man! Kudos! during the interval Jill and I met Chara and Suyi outside and showed them the prom photos. Haha chara was so amused that i placed her photo with me on the front page. HAHA. the concert ended late, at about 11 and then jill and i went to check out the toilets and the new compound. wah everything was so nice and the taps are automatic. what a good deal for a SCHOOL. haha rekha and other acsib ppl will be super shiok next year man. Man, this concert really made me regret further for not putting AC as my first choice, of course its not just the facilities, but also the people and band and seniors.

Weiting and I
By then it was about 11.40 plus then Diana and I waited for the star weiting and Kenneth to arrive, then we went out for supper at holland village. ate at crystal jade and talked and blahhed till 12 plus. Got a lift from kenneth's parents to the stretch outside Gospel Light. Diana and I cabbed back to school. Hha had to get mr jeow to open the gates for us, since we decided not to climb over the gates. went upstairs to room 99 and 100 was greeted by jasmine chiam and peace who came back to visit too!! yay, with such seniors, how to sleep! So I stayed up with them, talking and laughing and basically catching up with SO much stuff. we also played the FIFA 2006 version of Monopoly. So fun! the band-its woke up about 7 and then had drills and breakfast. Peace, jasmine and I order macs!
Till then, i had neither bathed, nor slept. Wah i felt so shagged I had to get home to take a bath and catch some sleep.
It was such a pleasant surprise that mummy was on leave so she fetched me home. yay, i only had time to bathe and eat though because had to rush back to school by 1.30 to watch them for band prac. we also had a fruitful marching video prac but unfortunately could not do it as kelly was unwell. after breaking camp, my section wanted to play monopoly so we played till 7 plus. Mum came to fetch me and we had dinner at Newton FC. Yayness!
These 3 days were absolutely jam packed and exciting. I love love love love the company, our school, the outings and activities.
However, my body was also absolutely fatigued and ill. Still the persistent slight fever for many days, sore throat and coughing. yikes. I was hoping Iwould be able to recover in time by Monday to go for the church camp! This morning was pretty bad and I was depressed for a while because i thought i wouldnt be able to go but by now, its actually quite good. yayness, praise the Lord!
well, since its past midnight now, I have to go catch some sleep since Im going to church early tmr, then vivo for more shopping. yay i REALLY LOVE THE holidays man!
